Description
ITS - TCP - 010 - Incoterms 2020 in Practice
Incoterms® 2020 gives buyers and sellers a shared framework for delivery, costs and cargo risk in a sales contract. This course explains how to select and state the right rule, identify the precise delivery event and check whether the agreed transport, insurance, customs and document arrangements are workable.
Across 100 interactive screens, you will explore all 11 Incoterms® 2020 rules through fictional but realistic transactions. Each screen asks you to make a practical decision before comparing it with a worked answer. You will practise naming an exact delivery point, tracing risk transfer, comparing landed or delivered costs, checking insurance and clearance responsibilities, and spotting documentary credit conditions that conflict with the shipment arrangement.
The course includes a student manual and a separate assessment. Each attempt draws 20 questions from a 60-question bank, with two questions from each of ten chapters. The pass mark is 60%, or 12 correct answers out of 20. Suitable for people who buy, sell, arrange or finance cross-border shipments. Basic familiarity with orders, invoices and shipments is helpful; prior Incoterms knowledge is not required.
Objectives
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Write an Incoterms® 2020 clause with the correct rule, precisely named place or port, and edition, while distinguishing delivery and cargo risk from ownership and payment.
- Select a suitable rule from the commercial facts, transport mode, actual handover point and the parties’ ability to fulfil their obligations.
- Apply EXW and FCA correctly to collection arrangements, including loading, export clearance and carrier handover.
- Explain why CPT and CIP can require the seller to pay carriage beyond the point where cargo risk transfers, and check the applicable insurance obligation.
- Distinguish DAP, DPU and DDP by unloading and import responsibilities, and identify when a seller cannot safely promise DDP.
- Apply FAS, FOB, CFR and CIF to appropriate sea shipments and recognise when a container handover calls for a different rule.
- Build and review a shipment cost comparison that itemises carriage, handling, clearance, insurance and destination costs.
- Check export, transit and import tasks against the actual customs and tax arrangements instead of assuming a trade term settles every legal requirement.
- Check whether transport and insurance documents required by a letter of credit are feasible under the chosen delivery arrangement.
- Record and justify a defensible rule choice using a shipment decision sheet and complete a practical capstone scenario.
